Frankfurt's Palmengarten is the largest botanical garden in Germany and is celebrating its 150th anniversary with this exhibition. On 19 hectares, an impressive variety of around 13,000 plant species can be discovered in the open air and in historic show houses. The Palm Garden offers exhibitions, themed tours and musical events all year round.
The Flower and Butterfly House, opening in 2021, shows the life cycle of butterflies and provides information about the importance of insects for the ecosystem. The central theme of flower ecology runs through the entire Palm Garden and the Botanical Garden, which has been connected since 2012.
The history of the Palm Garden began in 1866 when the Duke of Nassau sold his exotic plants to Frankfurt. Garden designer Heinrich Siesmayer realised a landscape garden with a revolutionary glass house with the support of Frankfurt citizens.
Today, the Palmengarten is a place for everyone, with a rich biodiversity and a well-known cultural and events programme, including jazz and pop concerts, photo exhibitions, flower shows, rose days, winter lights and educational activities for all ages.
