Without a socket, cooling sleeves or ice cubes: a self-cooling container for wine and sparkling wine based on the principle of evaporative cooling. How does it work? The evaporation of water requires energy, which is extracted from the ambient air in the form of thermal energy. This leads to a reduction in the air temperature. The specific effect: due to the porosity of the fired clay, water diffuses through the walls of the cooler and evaporates on the outside. This extracts heat energy from the inside of the cooler and significantly lowers the temperature. The cooling capacity of the ceramic from Kaufmann in Rehau is impressive: wine or sparkling wine stays cool for hours. The base is coated on the outside with a 1/3-high matt grey or matt white glaze, while the unglazed version only has a transparent glaze on the inside. This prevents the release of moisture to the bottom of the container. To activate the effect of the cooler, it must be immersed in cold water or filled with cold water for a few minutes. In this case, a lot helps a lot, because the longer it is soaked, the better the cooling effect.
