Nut family Urushi Edition

The Nut Family - Urushi Edition embodies the deep connection between Japan and Germany, uniting the craftsmanship of both cultures. This unique collection, designed by Kai Linke in Japan and Germany, combines traditional Japanese lacquer art with German craftsmanship.

Each figure of the family is turned from ash wood in Bavaria and then lovingly lacquered by hand in Kyoto using Urushi, an ancient traditional technique. This technique gives each figure a unique appearance, with each piece in the edition being treated with a different Urushi method, resulting in individual patterns and distinct finishes. The largest figure is adorned with the Negoro technique, where alternating layers of black and red lacquer are applied, and the final layer is polished to reveal fascinating black and red shapes. This colorful finish makes the edition especially lively and versatile. Packed in traditional Japanese wooden boxes.

Passionate about nuts, these, not only functional, figures easily crack even the hardest shells with their rotating central spindle, crafted from sturdy ash wood.
